New York Young Communist League

The Young Communist League (YCL) is the youth league of the Communist Party of the United States of America (CPUSA). We are devoted to the interests of all young people, as well as the revolutionary struggle of the American working class and the transformation of America into a socialist society through mass democratic struggle. The YCL stands with all young people in the struggle to realize their highest aspirations: to live in peace and freedom, to work and love, to create and celebrate. Only by eliminating capitalism and the evils that grow out of it, racism, gender and sexual discrimination, class exploitation, poverty and war, will the rights of young people be fully guaranteed.
Coming out of the militant upswing in activism around anti-capitalist struggle and the movement for black lives, a clear need for a revolutionary youth movement was felt, and in the 2019 convention of the CPUSA, the membership voted to re-form the Young Communist League of the United States of America. YCL has a storied and important history and its relevance is felt today more than ever. Across New York State, youth activists from the People’s Climate March, Fight for 15, and the Black Lives Matter movement, as well as organizers from socialist, labor, electoral, and student spaces, have come together to build a party for the working class and fight for a state, country, and world that  works for the people instead of the corporate oligarchs and capitalist ruling class.

About Us | Our Structure | Committees

The New York Young Communist League is currently, technically, an Organizing Committee of the YCL, as are the other YCL clubs across the country. This structural formation will change as we move through the democratic processes of reinstituting the Young Communist League nationally. As the youth league of the New York State Communist Party (NYS-CP), we follow the leadership of the democratically elected NYS-CP Executive Committee, and our members are often involved with work of their local CPUSA clubs.

We are a training ground for young communists, and serve as an introductory space to communism and to the CPUSA. However, we also function as our own organization, running our own campaigns, setting our own priorities and areas of work, and electing our own leadership.

The New York YCL has an elected leadership body, the Coordinating Committee, which coordinates the work of the NY-YCL. We organize our work through various subcommittees focused on different issues, regions, and logistics. If you would like to contact the NY-YCL Coordinating Committee, you may reach us at newyorkycl@gmail.com or via the New York YCL Slack.
