New York Young Communist League

The Young Communist League (YCL) is the youth league of the Communist Party of the United States of America (CPUSA). We are devoted to the interests of all young people, as well as the revolutionary movement of the working class toward a communist society through mass struggle. The YCL stands with all young people in the struggle to realize their highest aspirations: to live in peace and freedom, to work and love, to create and celebrate. Only by eliminating capitalism and the evils that grow out of it – racism, gender and sexual discrimination, class exploitation, poverty, and war – will the rights of young people be fully guaranteed.
Coming out of the recurrent waves of militancy in the past decade, Communist youth felt a clear need for a national revolutionary youth organization, and, in the 2019 convention of the CPUSA, party membership voted to work toward the re-establishment of the Young Communist League of the United States of America. The YCL, first founded in 1920, has a storied and important history and its relevance is felt today more than ever. Across New York State, youth organizers from the Protect Trans Youth Coalition, the Student Intifada, and the immigrant rights movement—as well as organizers from the broader socialist, labor, electoral, and student sectors—have come together to fight for a system that works for the people instead of capitalist, colonial, and imperialist interests.

About Us | Our Structure | Committees

The New York Young Communist League is a chapter of a forming nationwide Young Communist League. As the youth league of the New York State Communist Party (NYS-CPUSA), we organize towards the goals of the CPUSA’s Road to Socialism Program and often work closely with local CPUSA clubs.

We are a training ground for young communists and serve as an introductory space to Marxism-Leninism and the CPUSA. Because of our focus on education and training young people, we run our own campaigns, set our own priorities and areas of work, and elect our own leadership.

The New York YCL has an elected leadership body, the Coordinating Committee, which coordinates the work of the NY-YCL. We organize our work through various subcommittees focused on different issues, regions, and logistics. If you would like to contact the NY-YCL Coordinating Committee, you may reach us at newyorkycl@gmail.com
