TRUMP WINS AGAIN: THE YCL RESPONDS
Though not surprised, we are nevertheless disappointed that the United States has chosen to re-elect Donald Trump, a professional fraudster and conman currently awaiting sentencing, who has built his political career on fearmongering, lies, and corruption, and who represents the cruelest and most self-serving attributes of capitalist domination. Our struggle as organizers in the imperial core is the same, regardless of who is in power: it is an uphill battle against the forces of U.S. imperialism, monopoly capitalism, and ruthless chauvinism, none of which can be solved by the elite who run our undemocratic, two-party system.
In spite of the undeniable rightward turn within the American public, it is heartening to know that the progressive and anti-fascist coalition in this country is still alive: pro-Palestine members of Congress won re-election. A number of states, including New York, voted to protect abortion rights. And voters in Alaska and Missouri raised the minimum wage and now require employers to provide paid sick leave. These victories, great as they are, nevertheless speak to the failure of the Democratic Party to effectively galvanize their base by running on popular, progressive issues, but instead opting to court the favor of conservatives and upholding the status quo. This contradiction has once again lost the Democrats the White House for another four years to the tyrannical Trump.
The dedication required of us to persevere and further organize the left begins on the local, community level here in New York, where we will continue to fight for labor rights, climate action, peace and freedom for Palestine, and building working class power. We will not back down nor will we concede this fight, and with every passing day our resolve is strengthened harder against capitalism and the US imperialist war machine.
